Long Lines for Dogs and Dog Training
Maybe you've stumbled across this page as your dog trainer has suggested using a long line to practice recall. Or maybe you got talking with a fellow dog owner who you've seen using one.
Â
Whatever your reason for wanting to learn more about long lines for dogs, we're here to answer all your questions and determine whether you need this tool for your pup.Â
What is a longline?Â
What Would I use a Longline for?Â
Most dog owners start researching longlines if they're experiencing difficulty with teaching their dog's recall. A longline can assist with this by allowing your dog freedom, whilst having the security that you're still in control of them, and they're still attached to the end of a lead.Â
Â
Whilst recall practice is the primary use for a longline, it's not all their good for! Our long lines for dogs can also assist with:Â
- Providing you with peace of mind, making the dog training process that little bit easierÂ
- Allowing your dogs more freedom to sniff and exploreÂ
- Keeping your dog well exercised in a controlled manner e.g. if they're recovering from surgery, or experiencing stressÂ
- Allowing dogs that cannot be off lead (for example, those unfortunately caught under the Dangerous Dogs Act, or those still learning recall) more freedom.Â
Â
What are Longlines made from?Â
There are many different types of longlines on the market, and most commonly you will see them made from nylon webbing. Whilst these provide a cheap and cheerful solution, they're just not suitable for all dogs and general 'dog life'.Â
Â
For example, nylon longlines do not provide the strength that other long leads on the market do, and they can be incredibly frustrating to try and clean, especially after being dragged through mucky puddles!Â
Â
Our waterproof longlines on the other hand are made from waterproof webbing or biothane, both materials are easy to wipe clean and maintain. They are also finished with strong hardware, and can have a locking carabiner clip added to create a locking dog lead.Â
